Pirates still exist today, and the pirates of old aren’t really at all like the pirates we see in the movies today. Life was harsh back then, and pirates tended to die young.
Still, the thought of sailing the seven seas had a certain romance to it. Seeing far off lands, meeting different people and different cultures can be exciting. It’s one of the reasons I joined the Navy.
In the Navy we had a saying: Navy stands for “never again volunteer yourself.”
But it was still a lot of fun while it lasted.
